Yuguda Promises Free, Fair LG

Bauchi State Governor, Mallam Isa Yuguda, has reiterated the commitment of his administration to conduct a free, fair and acceptable local government election in the state in no distant time. This was contained in a press release by the Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Ishola Michael Adeyemi.

The governor, according to the release, gave the assurance when he paid an on-the-spot assessment visit to the headquarters of the State Independent Electoral Commission, (BASIEC) yesterday, declaring that his administration will provide an enabling atmosphere for the Commission to perform its constitutional role of unbiased umpire in the conduct of council polls in the state.

Isa Yuguda added that, “we will not in any way interfere with the conduct of the election but we will ensure that the Commission was provided with every logistic support required to enable it deliver a free, fair and acceptable election.

We will ensure that a level playing field was created for all participants to play a role in the election process.”

He called on the members of the Commission not to be partisan in the conduct of their Constitutional roles but to be fair and transparent in the conduct of the exercise so that the result will be acceptable by all the participants saying that they were all selected as members of the Commission on merit and not because of any political affiliation.

On the dilapidated state of the headquarters, the Governor assured that something will be done to fix it very soon so that the Commission will have a befitting edifice which will in turn enable members operate in an atmosphere conducive for such a very important assignment.

Earlier, Chairman of the Bauchi State Independent Electoral Commission (BASIEC) Abdulmumineen Mohammed Kundak had assured the governor that the ommission will do everything humanly possible to deliver to the people of the state a free, fair and acceptable council election very soon, pointing out that already machinery have been set in motion for the exercise.
