Bauchi โ€” The Bauchi State government has signed a memorandum of understanding with an International Islamic Relief Organization (IIR0SA) based in Jeddah in Saudi Arabia to construct a world class cardiac center, which would be the first of its kind in the whole of sub-Saharan Africa.

A statement by the governor’s senior special assistant on media Rilwanu Shehu said the 32-bed international cardiac heart center project will be funded by international and Nigerian donors headed by the Chairman of Dangote Group, Alhaji Aliko Dangote.

Governor Yuguda disclosed this in a speech he delivered when he visited the NGO’s center in Jeddah, saying his administration donated a piece of land and would soon build a massive hospital there that would be fully equipped and run by IIROSA.

Governor Yuguda said his team was working assiduously to ensure that the project was completed within the stipulated one year period so that IIROSA could fulfill its own pledge to set up a world class cardiac center of excellence in Bauchi.

“We don’t have heart centres in the country and anybody with heart problems has to be flown out of the country for treatment, which creates a serious burden on us as a country”, he said.

He said it was estimated that thousands of Nigerian children were born with heart diseases, which he said are a major cause of premature deaths in our children as well as young adults.

In his response, Secretary General of IIROSA Dr Adnan Basha expressed his satisfaction with the state government’s commitment and assured the governor of IIROSA’s full cooperation towards the realization of the project.
