THE Bauchi State command of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has stated its commitment to ensuring that the state is made a drug-free one, even as no fewer than 36 drug suspects were nabbed in the state between January and March, this year.

Addressing journalists at the command office in Bauchi over the weekend, the state commander of the agency, Mr Parah Julius Bawa, stated the agency was determined to supress the supply of illicit drugs in the state, with a view to disallowing their supply, saying that this would curb the inflow of the drugs into the state.

According to him, of the 36 suspects arrested, 11 had been convicted, while 22 were currently being tried at the Federal High Court, Bauchi, for drug-related offences, adding that three other suspects were counselled and released.

Bawa said that, in its efforts aimed at eliminating illicit drug supply in the state, the command arrested “some stubborn and unrepentant barons” of cannabis sativa, adding that one of such was Yakubu Mohammed, also known as ‘Director’, who was fingered by two suspects arrested in connection with a 70 kilogramme of cannabis sativa in the first quarter of this year, as their boss.

“Another very stubborn dealer, by the name Mamuda Ali, is from Jama’are area of the state. We arrested him with three of his boys with 6.2kg of cannabis. There is another dealer, Adamu Shuaibu, also known as Bugi, who resides at Mararraba Gumau, in Toro Local Government Area of the state,” Bawa informed.

He added that the people of Magama Gumau complained to the agency that the arrested Shuaibu was making their people mad through his activities of supplying of cannabis.

The commander also revealed that the agency also arrested one Mohammed Alhaji Tudu, also known as Buji, in Azare.
