Three Arrested Over Possession of Elephant Tusks

Three people have been arrested over alleged illegal possession of two elephant tusks and different other species of wild animals believed to have been stolen from the Yankari game reserve in Bauchi state.

A statement yesterday by the information officer of the Yankari Resort and Safari Limited, Mr. Caleb Yerima stated that among the different species allegedly stolen include warthog, Porcupine, Civet cat, honey badger, genet, guinea fowls, monitor lizards and squirrels.

The suspects arrested were identified as Esther John an Idoma from Benue state, Aisha Magaji of the same tribe and Abdullahi Adamu from Dadda village known for camping poachers near Yankari game reserve which is a border between Bauchi and Plateau states.

The statement said the poachers were arrested by rangers on surveillance at Mainamaji village in Alkaleri local government area of Bauchi state.

The statement said the suspects have been arraigned and remanded in prison custody by Magistrate Rashida Hamidu Adamu of Alkaleri Magistrate. The proceeding has been adjourned to Friday for hearing.
