SWAN Tasks Bauchi Govt On Wikki Tourists

| June 11, 2012 More

The Bauchi State Government has been called upon to rescue the state owned team, Wikki Tourists Football Club from going back to relegation at the end of this year’s football league season.

The call was made by the Chairman of the Sports Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN), Bauchi State Chapter, Umar Sa’id immediately after the team’s woeful performance against Kano Pillars in the week 24 rescheduled match that ended 4-0 in favor of the Kano side.

He said the performance of the state owned team in the on-going premier league is not encouraging as they remain the only team that is yet to secure an away draw throughout the matches played and yet to record a two nil victory in all its home matches.

The Chairman warned that unless the Ministry of Youth and Sports, management of the team wake up from its slumber and come to the rescue of the state owned team, history may repeat itself since the team may go back to the relegation zone which will be very painful to the entire football fans and stakeholders in the state. “It is unfortunate seeing the team battle in the relegation zone after spending just one season coming back from the lower division and heading back again. It will be a disaster for sports sector in the state. Government should seriously do something about it now before it is too late. Who is who should be contacted to make their own contribution towards saving the team from going to relegation and government should play its own part with all commitment. I can’t believe it as the league is about to end but Wikki players are yet to get part of their sign on fees and even about their match allowances I was made to understand that they have outstanding payment. So, how do you expect any commitment from the part of the players and the officials?” he asked.

The chairman noted with concern the financial predicament of the team, saying that if such a thing is happening to the state owned team that is playing in the premier league, he wonders what will be happening to the teams like Zabgai, Wunti and Kufca football clubs that are playing in the amateur league.
