PALPABLE tension gripped residents of some areas of Bauchi, especially students of the Federal Polytechnic, Bauchi, living at Gwalameji area, on Thursday, over a rumoured planned attack of students by insurgents, leading to heavy presence of armed policemen in some parts of the state capital.

This is even as some students attacked and beat two journalists at the Press Centre of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Bauchi State council, for what they termed journalists’ refusal to cover their peaceful demonstration over the prolonged strike embarked upon by the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU).

The Nigerian Tribune gathered that some students of the polytechnic who were yet to leave the town in view of the ongoing strike embarked upon by the Academic Staff Union of Polytechnic (ASUP) were forced to vacate their residences, in order to avoid the fate that befell some students of the College of Agriculture, Gujba, Yobe State, who were massacred by insurgents recently.
