Rains destroy bridge, farmlands in Bauchi

| September 3, 2013 More

A DEVASTATING flood following torrential rainfall has washed away farms worth over N10 million and destroyed a bridge that connected 20 villages at LomeFulani in Kirfi local council of Bauchi State.

Speaking to journalists on the sad event yesterday, the village head of LomeFulani, Alhaji Adamu Mohammed Bello, said the situation endangers the lives of women and children because there is no other road to the hospital in event of emergencies.

He appealed to both the state and Federal Governments to come to their rescue and further create an avenue where they would sell their farm produce. He lamented that all perishable agricultural produce would spoil, leading to loss of revenue and dampening the social activities of the inhabitants.

However, the district head of Bara, Alhaji Mohammed Abdullahi, said the disaster was a test from God and that they would accept it in good faith. He added that the bridge served over 10,000 people who transport goods and undertake medical services to the city.
