Police, Vigilante Kill Robber in Bauchi

Bauchi โ€” Police in a joint patrol with members of a vigilante group yesterday killed an armed robbery suspect along Jos-Bauchi highway in Toro local government area of Bauchi State.

The Bauchi State Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), ASP Hassan Mohammed confirmed the incident.

He said, “The armed robbery suspect was killed in a joint operation by the police and men of the Toro vigilante group.

“There was an exchange of fire that ensued between the hoodlums and the joint patrol team. “The hoodlums fled into the bush and the police cordoned the area off searching for the fleeing hoodlums.

“It was in the process of the search that one of the hoodlums was found dead wearing fake army uniforms; he died as a result of gunshots during the exchange of fire.” The PPRO said, “Police recovered an AK 47 rifle and 49 rounds of ammunition. The rest of the robbers are still at large, but we hope to get them very soon.”

In his account of the incident, the spokesman of the vigilante group, Malam Abdullahi Umar Fakuru said his men came across the suspected armed robbery gang near Yankari Farms.

He said they dressed in fake military uniforms and upon seeing them they opened fire.
