Police nab assistant headmaster for raping 9-yr-old in Bauchi

THE police in Bauchi State have nabbed an assistant headmaster in the state for allegedly raping a nine-year-old pupil in his school.

The Nigerian Tribune learnt on Tuesday that the suspect, one Mr James Dantayi, who is the assistant headmaster of Jubril Aminu Model Primary School in the state capital, raped the victim (name withheld), who is a primary three pupil in the school.

The parents of the victim got to know about the alleged offence on noticing their daughter’s movement, which they saw as being abnormal, when she returned home from school. Upon interrogation, the girl told her parents that it was the assistant headmaster that had unlawful carnal knowledge of her.

The parents, according to sources, reported the matter to the police who promptly arrested the 42-year-old assistant headmaster and have since commenced investigation into the matter.

Confirming the incident to journalists in Bauchi on Tuesday, the Bauchi State Police command’s  Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Haruna Mohammed, stated that the police received a complaint from the parents, adding that the suspect was currently in police custody while investigation was ongoing.

According to Mohammed, a Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP), “we have received a complaint about the matter and we visited the scene of the incident. We are currently investigating the matter, while the suspect is in our custody.”

The PPRO stated that the police took photograph of the scene upon their visit to the school, adding that the victim was taken to the Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University Teaching Hospital (ATBUTH) in Bauchi for medical examination and treatment.
