Police arrest 186 suspected criminals

BAUCHI State Commissioner of Police, Mohammed Ladan, has disclosed the arrest of over 186 criminals within two months for various offences.

Briefing newsmen Wednesday in his office, Ladan said a joint raid was organised by the Police, Army and the State Security Service (SSS) targeted at all black spots and other criminal hideouts in Katagum Local Council Headquarters, Azare, during which 92 persons were arrested.

According to the commissioner, a team from Dutsen Tanshi Division on patrol along Nassarawa-Jahun in Bauchi arrested four suspects found vandalising NITEL cable. He gave the names of the suspects as Murtal Mohammed, Sulaiman Mohammed, Sambo Hassan and Yusuf Ajam, from whom hacksaw, knifes and bottles of suck and die were recovered.

He also disclosed that policemen attached to the B Department ran into a road block erected by armed robbers near Panshanu, along Jos-Bauchi road, where they exchanged fire with the hoodlums, killing some of them.

Based on intelligence report, he said, one Alhaji Abdullahi Mohhammed of Doya ward in Bauchi was arrested in possession of firearms and 38-round live ammunition, locally made pistol and a dane gun. He added that Doya would soon be charged to court after discreet investigation.

During the raid the raid of various spots, the commissioner stated, six suspects were arrested with weeds suspected to be Indian hemp, and offensive weapons and other hard drugs in their possession, and they have been charged to court.
