Oyo battle Edo in Semis

The host team, Oyo State will slug it out against their Edo State counterpart in the first semi-final match of the 1st Nigeria Academicals Football championship today at the Lekan Salami Stadium Adamasingba Ibadan by 2.00pm.

 According to the draws made on Friday, Kaduna State will play against Bauchi state in the second semi-final which will start by 4.00pm.

The winners of the two semi final matches will compete in Sunday’s final at the Lekan Salami Stadium Adamasingba Ibadan with kick off time put at 3.00pm

The kick off for the championship was delayed for twenty-four hours following the late arrival of the Bauchi state contingent who came in on Friday morning and complained of fatigue.

Speaking shortly after the draws, member of the technical committee of the championship, Mr David Aigbovo said the shift in time will not affect the quality of play as the committee is determined to organize a successful championship for the maiden National Academicals Championship.

He said the teams who were housed at the Obafemi Awolowo Stadium hostel are in good shape and are looking forward to showcase their soccer talents in the championship.

Meanwhile Oyo State commissioner for youth and Sports, Dapo Lam Adesina has assured participating states of memorable stay in Ibadan. Hon Adesina, who is also the chairman of the Local Organising Committee (LOC) thanked the executive governor of Oyo State, Senator Abiola Ajimobi for his support for Sport in the State while also reiterating his  resolve to set a new standard for Sport in the pacesetter state.
