The Bauchi State chapters of Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN), Congress for Progressive Change (CPC) and the Democratic People’s Party (DPP) have criticised the Bauchi State Government for the inability to airlift pilgrims from Bauchi State International Airport this year despite “several promises” by Governor Isa Yuguda.
Chairman of CPC, Alhaji Aliyu Sa’idu, Chairperson of the DPP, Hajiya Sa’adatu Mahmuda and the spokesman of the ACN, Nasiru Ibrahim Darazo, stated this yesterday while addressing newsmen at the secretariat of the Nigerian Union of Journalists (NUJ) in Bauchi.
They said “the inability of the state government not to airlift pilgrims from the state this year despite several promises by the government had vindicated us, we kept telling people that the PDP- led Government will not deliver its promises, we are now vindicated.”
Leaders of the opposition parties said ” it is not only the airport that the present administration has refuse to complete since the government had started executing many projects between 2007, 2008 like Ningi- Burra road, Alkaleri- Futuk road , Specialist Hospital Bauchi, and many other general hospitals but up till now the projects are still ongoing five or six years after they were awarded and 70 percent down payment was paid to the contractors according to government.”
However, in a swift reaction, the Peoples Democratic Party(PDP) Bauchi State chapter said the PDP led administration “must first of all be commended and appreciated for initiating the laudable legacy projects that will bring all required development to the state.”
A statement signed by the Publicity Secretary of PDP in the State, Alhaji Aliyu Hardo, on the legacy projects said “since the creation of Bauchi state in 1976 non of the ex-governors has given high priority to the following sector -Education, Health, Agriculture, Commerce and Industry like the present administration and should therefore be commended.”
Hardo commended “the state Governor for establishing Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University Teaching Hospital, (ATBUTH), Bauchi State University (BSU), and the famous International Airport with state of the art facilities.
I consider these three projects as a great success by the present administration because it came at the right time that the state is willing and over due to boost its socio-economic activities in all ramifications of the citizens lives,”
On the inability to airlift state Pilgrims from Bauchi airport, Hardo said “the governor himself has explained the situation that they had secured presidential approval and they are waiting for licence from regulatory agency in Canada and whoever you are you must follow the rules and regulations in order to ensure safety of the people.”
He said the opposition should support the administration since none of the governors that rule the state ever attempt to carry out these laudable legacy projects which its gains cannot be over emphasized considering the employment opportunities it’s created for the entire people of the state, north east geo-political zones and the country at large.
