No fewer than nine people have been killed while four others sustained injuries when an auto crash occurred in Dungal village along the Bauchi-Jos road.

Bauchi State Sector Commandant of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Henry Sunday Olatunji, who confirmed the incident to newsmen on Tuesday, said the accident occurred on Monday night in the village in the Bauchi Local Government area of the state.

According to him, the accident involved three vehicles, including a bus, a Volkswagen Passat car and a Peugeot 406 with 20 occupants.
He said, “The accident occurred as a result of wrong overtaking; nine people died, six of them were burnt beyond recognition.

The other three dead bodies recovered include one woman, one male and a boy while four people sustained injuries and seven people escaped unhurt.

Two vehicles, that is the Volkswagen Passat and the bus, were gutted by fire but we invited the state fire service immediately and they assisted us to put the fire off.

According to Olatunji, the surviving victims had been taken to the Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University Teaching Hospital, Bauchi, where they are receiving treatment.

He advised motorists to always be cautious while driving, adding that the command was working towards sensitising road users on the need to drive safely and avoid over speeding.
