| June 3, 2013 More

Bauchi — A Bauchi State High Court presided over by the State Chief Judge, Justice Ibrahim Mohammed Zango, has ordered the Bauchi State House of Assembly to reinstate Mrs Rifkatu Samson Danna of Bogoro state constituency.

Danna was suspended by the Assembly last year, when she accused her colleagues of insincerity in the decision to move the headquarters of Tafawa Local Government Area from Tafawa Balewa to Bununu saying it was predetermined.

She was asked to apologize to the House in writing but she opted for a verbal apology which was not accepted by the House.

Danna through her counsel, Mr. Femi Falana sued the lawmakers and asked the court to compel the House to reinstate her and pay all her entitlements and asked for an addition N30 million as damages.

In his Judgment Justice Zango, said the indefinite suspension of the lawmaker was illegal and unconstitutional and ordered the House to reinstate her and pay her all her entitlements from 1st June 2012 as well as return her security aides to enable her resume normal duty since she was elected to serve the people of her constituency for a period of four years.

In her reaction, Mrs. Danna said she is grateful to the Nigerian Judiciary for upholding justice saying when she went to court she expected nothing less than justice.

Counsel to Bauchi State Speaker House of Assembly and Bauchi State House of Assembly Barrister Anas Ilelah said he will contact his client for necessary action.
