A non government organisatio (NGO), FAHIMTA Women and Youth Development Initiative, based in Bauchi State, at the weekend, called for the rehabilitation of the collapsed Lome Fulani bridge in Kirfi Local Government Area of the state.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reported that the bridge collapsed due to heavy rain and flood recorded in parts of the state this year.

The secretary of the organisation, Mr Polycarp Maigari, told NAN in Bauchi that the destruction was affecting the delivery of health and educational services in the community.

He recalled that the bridge was constructed through communal efforts by the residents of the area.

“The community of about 10,000 people has been cut off completely from other communities.

“The bridge has cut off communication and accessibility to the community which is 10 kilometres from the Gombe highway to Lome Fulani.

“The NGO has projects with women farmers group and children’s education, nutrition and general welfare of the people,” he said.

However, Maigari acknowledged the commitment of the state government towards developing rural areas.

“We were at the office of the Commissioner for Special Duties, Alhaji Bappah Azare, to show him the pictures of the bridge and immediately he and other officials went to the community,” the secretary said.
