New STF Commander Promises To Improve Security In Plateau

Maj.-Gen. Henry Ayoola, the new Commander of the Special Task Force (STF) maintaining security in Plateau, on Friday pledged to improve security in the troubled state.

Ayoola, who made the pledge after taking over from Maj.-Gen. Mohammed Ibrahim, the out-gone Commander at the STF Headquarters in Jos, said that efforts would be doubled on past efforts.

“I look forward to being able to bring about a sustainable peace on the Plateau and Tafawa Balewa Local Government in Bauchi State, which is my mandate.

“I have come as the harbinger of hope. I have also come to consolidate on the gains of all the governments’ efforts so far, so that we can have sustainable peace on the Plateau,” he said.

He said that the STF under his command would double its efforts to ensure that the incessant killing of innocent citizens was stamped out of the state.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the new helmsman was before his new posting, the Director of Armed Forces Simulation Centre, Jaji.

NAN also reports that his predecessor, who resumed on Feb. 24, 2012, had been redeployed to the Defence Headquarters.

The state capital and its environs had been witnessing a semblance of peace before it was again truncated on Feb. 27

The suicide attack on COCIN Headquarters Church on Feb 27 in Jos left six people dead and no fewer than 50 others injured.
