| January 26, 2014 More

Today, a mob gathered in front of an Islamic court in Bauchi throwing stones at nine men, including a college professor, were brought in for trial on allegations of being gay.

The mob chanted “god punish you” while stoning the men. Officers of the Bauchi state police command had to use tear gas to disperse the mob.

Since the signing of the anti-gay bill into law in Nigeria, suspected homosexuals have become walking targets.

In Islamic courts, homosexuality is punishable by death. However, a person convicted under Islamic law in Nigeria has the right to appeal in a secular court.
