BAUCHI State governor, Mallam Isa Yuguda, on Monday described Sunday’s triumph of the Super Eagles over Ivory Coast in the quarter-final of the ongoing Africa Cup of Nations as a sweet victory, just as he commended the Eagles for defeating the star-studded Ivorian team.

The governor, in a press statement issued and signed by his Chief Press Secretary (CPS), Mr Ishola Michael Adeyemi, and made available to Tribunesport on Monday in Bauchi, stated that the victory was a sweet one considering the Eagles’ rating before the tournament, declaring that with the victory, Nigerians can expect to see the cup in the country as it was done in 1980 and 1994.

According to the sports-loving Governor Yuguda, the Eagles and their technical crew demonstrated the determination spirit of Nigerians with the way they took the quarter-final  match seriously as if their lives depended on the outcome, pointing out that what was done on the pitch was a confirmation of the rebuilding of Nigeria by the present administration.

He said, “The team has made us proud by defeating a highly-rated team like Ivory Coast, which boasted with Didier Drogba, Yaya Toure, Salomon Kalou and a host of other world stars.”

While congratulating the team for the victory, the governor expressed the hope that Sunday’s victory would fire the Eagles up against the Eagles of Mali in the semi-fimal match billed for Wednesday and ultimately ginger them to win the African diadem after 19 years of doing so last.

“We are proud of you and we in Bauchi State join other Nigerians to congratulate you over the victory with the hope that it will spur you up to face the next challenge from Mali with the same determination so that at the end you will not only be victorious but also bring the cup back to Nigeria after many years of absence,” he said.
