How fire gutted Bauchi MDGs office

VITAL documents were retrieved in the Bauchi State Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) office, which was recently gutted by fire, the Permanent Secretary, Alhaji Sambo Jamberi has disclosed.

However, two plasma television sets, one refrigerator, three split air-conditioners, one photocopying machine and the office furniture were lost.

Speaking to reporters, Jamberi said: “I was called on telephone that fire has gutted our office while I was in Abuja with five of my staff attending to a sensitisation workshop. We had to cut short the meeting.”

He explained that the fire, which started at night, affected all the five offices in the building, but all official documents, files and computers were retrieved.

When The Guardian visited the office behind Bauchi Airport near Federal Secretariat complex, workers were seen trying to sort out a few files and document recovered from the fire.

The Acting Director of the state fire service, Babayo Umar Misau, said his men were also able to prevent the fire from spreading to the surrounding environment, adding that no life was lost in the incident.
