Barely 24 hours after nine persons were feared killed and seven others severely injured from gunshots by unknown gunmen in Bauchi State, tragedy again struck last night when a former Controller General of Prisons, Alhaji Ibrahim Jarma, was brutally attacked by unknown gunmen.

The gunmen in the process killed one Warder and injured another.

The incident, which occured in Azare town, headquarters of Katagum Local Government Area of the state, caused panic among people in the area.

A reliable family source told THISDAY that Jarma came out from the mosque after a late evening prayer, when he was shot in his arm and leg.

THISDAY investigations revealed that the gunmen who were two in number, opened fire on Jerma’s security guard, killing one warder and injuring another.

Speaking on the incident, some residents of the area who spoke on phone with THISDAY, said they heard sporadic gunshots, making many of the residents to abandon their homes and run for safety.

However, efforts to get the state Police Commissioner, Mohammed Ladan, proved abortive.

But, a source close to THISDAY at the state Police Command, confirmed the attack but noted that the former Comptroller who sustained injuries from the gunshot is alive.

The source disclosed that the Controller is receiving treatment in an undisclosed hospital in Azare town.
