Bauchi — Flood has killed five persons and submerged 20 communities in Zaki Local Government Area of Bauchi-North senatorial district in Bauchi State.
The senator representing Bauchi-North senatorial district, Senator Babayo Gamawa, disclosed this when he visited some of the affected local government areas in the zone.
Senator Gamawa appealed to the Federal Government to intervene in the matter, saying the disaster has cut off several communities from their local government headquarters, just as some have been cut off from the state capital.
Gamawa urged the Federal Government to hasten work on the Kafin Zaki dam, to address the perennial flood in the state.
The senator added that construction of other small dams will go a long way in containing the volume of water flowing from River Kiyawa in Jigawa State and the river in Jama’are to parts of Bauchi-North. Gamawa also donated N1 million to the affected communities.
Caretaker committee chairmen of Gamawa and Zaki Local Government Areas, Kabiru Garba and Moh’d Babaji Katagum, thanked the state government for its assistance.
