Bauchi — General Manager of the Bauchi State Water Board, Engineer Aminu Aliyu Gital, has said that shortage of water supply in some parts of the state is as a result of the overflow of river basins in the state.
Engineer Aminu Gital, while speaking with newsmen said flood affected the armour cables buried under the ground that supply power to 30 boreholes in Jamare and Azare towns.
“We are finding it extremely difficult to power these boreholes because we are unable to connect the cables that convey water along the existing power lines. We employed an interim measure to salvage the situation by connecting the two affected towns via some poles,” he said.
The manager also decried the shortage of power supply to Gubi dam in Bauchi metropolis, saying, “We have been operating on generating sets for some time now because of the shortage of power supply. The Power Holding Company of Nigeria is experiencing some challenges in generating power due to flood. So you can now see why there is problem with power supply to the metropolis.”
He appealed to residents of the state to exercise patience, assuring that normal water supply will be restored as soon as overflow of the river basins reduces.
