Fire Razes Bauchi MDGs Office

Bauchi โ€” Fire has razed the office of the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) in Bauchi State.

The Acting Director, Bauchi State Fire Service, Babayo Umar Misau confirmed the incident.

He said his office received a telephone call at about 8:23pm on fire outbreak at the MDGs office.

He said his men were able to save some valuable documents from the fire.

“We also prevented the fire from spreading. No life was lost in the incident,” he explained.

Misau said the cause of the fire was yet to be known.

“We have commenced investigations. Inquiries are on-going to get to what caused the fire,” he said.

Sunday Trust correspondent gathered from the workers that the fire affected all the five offices in the building burning official documents, files, computers and furniture among other valuables.

Workers said the fire razed the store where stationery, project equipment and other material were kept.

It also burnt down accounts, technical offices and the office of the Permanent Secretary who heads the MDGs office.

When our correspondent visited the office behind Bauchi airport, near Federal Secretariat Complex, staffers were seen under a tree rummaging through files and documents recovered from the fire.

When contacted, the Permanent Secretary in charge of MDGs Bauchi office, Sambo Umaru Jamberi who was among the staffers under the tree declined comment.

He sent the information officer, Alhaji Umaru Abdullahi who explained to the newsmen that he (the Permanent Secretary) was not competent to talk to journalists on the issue.
