Vice-President, Namadi Sambo on Sunday said the Federal Government would partner with Bauchi State Government to ensure that the Yankari Game Reserve attains international tourists’ status.
Sambo, who gave the assurance at the inauguration of the resort in Yankari, said the project was a clear indication of the ruling party’s spirit of continuity.
Describing the resort as an international standard tourist site, Sambo said, ‘the benefit of democracy and continuity was what we are commissioning today.
“This is magnificent and a first class international standard holiday resort. I congratulate the two governors under whose administration the resort was completed for doing a wonderful job.
“I want to assure the Bauchi State Government of Federal Government’s continued support for the sustenance of the resort.”
Earlier, Governor Isa Yuguda said the Yankari Game Reserve can generate between five and 10 billion dollars annually as revenue, if patronised.
He said that the development of the resort was in line with President Goodluck Jonathan’s Transformation Agenda and the need to explore other sources of generating revenue.
“With this international standard tourist site, i want to say that in due time, it will be complemented by our international airport.
“I am assuring you that the resort alone can attract between five to 10 billion dollars as revenue in due course, when patronised.
“This resort should be patronised by Nigerians, because it is better than Sun City Holiday Resort that our people go to for holidays in Cape Town, South Africa.
“Sun City does not have warm spring or game viewing, but this resort has all the things tourists are looking for in a resort and a lot of other natural endowment.
“Also, in terms of security, the state and Yankari in particular is the most secured environment in the nation,” the governor said.
Yuguda explained that improving the standard of the reserve was the initiative of the former governor of the state, Dr Ahmad Mu’azu.
