Prof Dora Akunyili, the Chairman, North-East Presidential Sub-Committee on Flood and Rehabilitation, says the Federal Government will supply snake anti-venom vaccines to victims of the 2012 flood disaster in Bauchi State.

Akunyili made this known on Tuesday in Duguri town, in Alkaleri Local Government Area of the state while addressing the people of the area as part of the committee’s inspection tour of areas affected by flood.

“We have also planned to bring snake anti-venom for those people that are beaten by snake and today I have learnt from some of you that snake that are surfacing are foreign to this place and that is another dimension.

“It means that we are going to collect some of samples to ensure that the right types of anti-venom are brought to you.

“We heard how snakes are chasing you out of your houses, because the snakes were chased out of their natural habitats and they decided to look for alternative place and started running into your homes.

“We know what happened to you, we read it on newspapers, we have seen on TV, some  international agencies, some Nigerian agencies like FERMA and others like NEMA have come here and shown us the clips, so we are aware of what you went through.

She said that the committee had seen farmlands that were devastated by the flood and assured that the victims would be rehabilitated.

“We have come today and we have seen for ourselves, even though the water is receding, we can see the farmlands that were swept away, we heard from the people.

“I want to tell you that President Jonathan, who set up this committee, did so because he cares for you, he loves you, President Jonathan shares your pains.

“That is why he set up this committee and mandated us to ensure that you do not suffer too much, to make sure that we make life easier for you.

“And that we act quickly to rehabilitate you and give you a better than you had before among other things that we are ask to do.

“We are getting things together to ensure that we bring relief materials on continuous bases, not on one on base, and that we do other things that you live a normal and better life; like ensuring that you have decent accommodations; you have decent schools; ensure that teachers are there; and too many other things we are planning.
