‘Capacity building, tool for economic development’

DEVELOPMENT of human and financial resources have been described as a veritable tool to be employed to achieve economic development in any society, even as the Governor Isa Yuguda administration in Bauchi State has been thumbed up for giving training and retraining of civil servants a priority attention.

Speaking while declaring open a three-day workshop organised for caretaker chairmen, secretaries, treasurers, directors of planning and heads of administration in the 20 local government areas of the state at the Professor Iya Abubakar Resource Centre in Bauchi, the Special Adviser to Governor Yuguda on Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Alhaji Abdullahi Gwaram, stated that the greatest asset of any organisation was its human resources, noting that no effort should be spared to adequately develop it.

Gwaram noted that the workshop, entitled, “Excellent financial management in local government accounting measures and control”, organised by the state Ministry of Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs in conjuction with an accounting firm, J.C. Obiora and co., was aimed at building the capacity of participants with a view to championing the cause of the current administration in the state to provide the people with dividends of democracy.

Apart from this, Gwaram added that the workshop was aimed at dealing with budget and budgetary control, evaluation and monitoring, as well as community development re-engineering, poverty reduction through small businesses economic empowerment.

While urging participants to take advantage of the workshop in order to have a proper accounting skill with which to discharge their duties effectively, the special adviser added that “you stand a better chance to share experience that will build your capacities in the course of the discharge of your various assigned responsibilities.”

In his remark on the occasion, the Chief Consultant, J.C. Obiora and Co., Mr John Obiora, commended the Yuguda administration’s policy of developing a virile civil service through training and retraining.

“It is in view of Govenor Yuguda’s commitment to the development of the state that he is today refer to as the harbinger of today’s very successful democracy in Bauchi State, which placed him as the father of modern Bauchi State,” Obiora stated.
