CAN wants herdsmen to stop destroying farmlands

| August 10, 2012 More

THE Tafawa Balewa chapter of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) in Bauchi State has called on Fulani herdsmen to desist from destroying farmlands in the area.

The call was made yesterday in a press briefing by the CAN Chairman, Isa’ac Istifanus, saying that over 20 farmlands had been destroyed in six villages in Tafawa Balewa and Bogoro local council areas.

According to him, the villages are: Muntokshi, Mingil, Mundadi, Gumel, Pekman and Arewa.

He said despite the destruction of the farmlands, the government had failed to address the issue.

Istifanus said that Sayawa people were peace-loving and would continue to be law-abiding citizens while appealing to security agents to come to their aid.

He lamented that the people of the affected areas no longer go to their farms for fear of being killed by the herdsmen.
