Bauchi to Hasten Provision of Independent Power

The Bauchi State government has concluded arrangement to provide an independent power plant in the state towards combating the problem of persistent power outages across the state as well as boosting economic and commercial activities and bringing development to the state.

The Commissioner of Power and Energy in the state, Mr. Yakubu Bello Kirfi, who disclosed this while speaking to newsmen in Bauchi, also said the combined cycle power plant will be connected to Bauchi Power Grid at 132KV line in which approval to that affect has been obtained from the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) of PHCN upon presentation of evacuation study by Adabell Technologies in Abuja that cost the government N15 million.

He explained that recently the state Governor, Malam Isa Yuguda, signed the final design equipment supply and construction contract documents that included detailed map, main equipment and materials list of plant in the presence of President Goodluck Jonathan.

The Commissioner stated that Yuguda has concluded arrangement with Exim Bank of Beijing in China endorsed by Finance Minister towards financing the power plant project in the state, adding that Yankari Power plant will consist of two gas turbines units where each unit will consist of 38MW with two heat recovery steam generator and one steam turbine normal capacity is about 35MW.

He said documentation has reached advanced stage with Bank of Industries, African Finance Corporation and Central Bank of Nigeria towards facilitating the assessment of the FG Power and aviation intervention funds’ laying with CBN.

Kirfi explained that the ministry has executed about 22 different projects to some communities across the state, which includes construction of ITC, TDN and supply/installation of 200KVA, 11/0.415KV transformer at Fadaman Daji A behind the Federal secretariat worth over N12 million, Environmental Impact Assessment worth N38 million and evacuation studies amounting to N15 million.

He said the Ministry has obtained clearance from the state chief executive, Mallam Isa Yuguda for the electrification of 10 more different communities across the state worth millions of naira.
