Bauchi โ€” The chairman, Bauchi State Committee on Distribution of Federal Government N400 million relief to victims of 2012 flood disaster, Ambassador Adamu Aliyu has said beneficiaries will personally collect their shares in all the 17 affected local government areas of the state.

Aliyu stated this yesterday while briefing newsmen at the end of the committee’s authentication and verification of victims in seven local government areas in Bauchi North Senatorial district.

He said the damage to farmlands, houses, animals was estimated at over N3 billion.

He said the committee, made up of traditional rulers, government officials and other relevant agencies, was in the area to determine the number of victims and property destroyed.

Aliyu said the N400 million donated by the federal government is already in the coffers of the state government, hence the formation of the committee to enable the victims access the relief.

He said the money would be given to beneficiaries after verification in the presence of district and village heads to ensure fairness to all.

The chairman called on victims whose farmlands were situated along flood-prone areas to plant early maturing crops to avoid the 2012 situation where most crops about to mature were washed away.

Aliyu added that the money given by the federal government will not be enough to compensate the victims but will only help to reduce the problems of the victims.

The committee had visited Katagum, Shira, Itas Gadau, Zaki, Giade, Gamawa , and Jama’are local government areas .

This week, it will met victims in Bauchi Central Senatorial district before the distribution of the money.
