Bauchi โ€” The control room and studio of the Bauchi State Television Authority (BATV) have been razed down by fire.

According to a witness, the fire started around 12.30pm on Friday when most staff of the station had left the office to attend the Friday prayers. The witness added that the fire started from the studio.

It was gathered that the staff at the station, including the Managing Director battled the fire for about 30 minutes, before officials from the state’s Fire Service arrived the scene.

Speaking to newsmen, Managing Director of the station, Alhaji Ibrahim Idris Shall described the incident as unfortunate. He said he had just left the office when he received a call that the studio block was on fire, and that he rushed down immediately.

Alhaji Ibrahim said the station may not be able to operate for now but will consider the possibility of moving to the new studio despite the fact that it is still under construction.

He however added that the transmitter of the station was not affected by the fire.
