| July 4, 2012 More

Bauchi โ€” The Bauchi State chapter of Academic Staff Union of Secondary Schools has given Governor Isa Yuguda an ultimatum to either remove state commissioner of education Ibrahim Mohammad Aminu or transfer him to another ministry or face indefinite industrial action.

Addressing a press conference in Bauchi yesterday, chairman of the union Abdullahi Mohammad Tanko said if by today their demand was met all public secondary schools in the state would be closed indefinitely.

The union accused the commissioner of maladministration as well as creating many problems that affect the state educational progress and development.

The teachers also accused the commissioner of masterminding crisis within the union, especially by sponsoring a group as the faction of ASUSS in the state and even going ahead to dissolve the executives and replacing them with a fictitious caretaker committee.

He said despite the fact that education was the bedrock for any development in every society yet secondary schools in the state were made ineffective by the present administration through rampant transfer of teachers with primary aim of victimization.

Tanko alleged that junior officers were now appointed as principals and vice principals to head various schools despite the fact that there were senior officers in such schools while junior officers were also transferred to zonal education offices and other education sectors to serve as inspectors.

“It’s unfortunate that the government has adopted some wrong measures to destabilize the education sector, especially the aimless mock examination in our schools that claimed huge amount of money. Also teachers having elicit affairs with their female students and issuance of fake results exams are allowed to go free without any sanctions; for example the case of GDSS Kofar Wambai”, he said.

In his reaction to all the allegations against him, the state commissioner of education, Alhaji Mohammad Ibrahim, described the accusation as baseless and unfounded, warning that government would not allow some unpatriotic persons to take laws into their own hand and close down their schools.
