Bauchi โ€” Bauchi State Police Command yesterday said that the bomber who blew up himself on Tuesday in Bauchi, died while receiving treatment.

A statement by the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Idris Abdullahi Abubakar stated that, “when police bomb experts searched the scene, it was discovered that the unidentified man was hit by an IED he was carrying. And upon searching his person, police recovered one revolver pistol, with five rounds of ammunition. He was rushed to the Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University Teaching Hospital after the incident, but died in the course of treatment. Prior to his death, the bomber confirmed to be a member of Boko Haram sect”.

The PPRO appealed to the public to give useful information to security agencies for necessary action, and advised parents to warn their children against rushing to scenes of incidents.

“It is a dangerous trend as men of the underworld have used such to attract crowd in the past before detonating explosives. The police and its bomb disposal unit should be allowed to take control and render the scene safe before people come there,” he said.

When asked about the allegation that the man did not die in the hospital, DSP Abubakar said, “We heard that many people were going to the hospital to see the man, so in order to guarantee his safety, we removed him from the hospital in company of a medical doctor and he passed away while receiving treatment”.

When contacted, the Chief Medical Director of the ATBUTH, Dr Muhammad Alkali said, “the suspect was brought to the hospital, and later he was transferred by the police. I don’t know where they took him to, but he did not die in the hospital. May be they took him to another hospital for security reasons, you can confirm from them”.
