Bauchi โ€” Bauchi State Chief Magistrate Court presided over by Magistrate Shafa’u Ladan Yusuf has ordered chairman of the State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB) Alhaji Abdullahi to appear before it on June 4, 2013, over criminal charges levelled against him.

A middle aged man, Mohammed Bawa, through his counsel, Jibrin Sa’ad Jibrin, earlier asked the court to investigate criminal charges, including assault, criminal force and beating against the SUBEB boss. But counsel to the SUBEB boss, Barrister Saleh Bakaro, filed a preliminary objection challenging the jurisdiction of the court to entertain the suit. He also stated that it is not necessary for the accused to appear in court since he was already represented.

Delivering her ruling, Magistrate Shafau Ladan Yusuf said, “The applications raised by the accused counsel is over ruled and the accused is to appear for trial at the next adjourned date”. Counsel to the complainant, Barrister Jibrin, expressed satisfaction with the ruling, but counsel to Abdullahi Dabo, Barrister Saleh Bakaro, said they were not satisfied with the ruling. The matter has been adjourned to June 4, 2013.
