| March 29, 2013 More

Bauchi — The Academic Staff Union of Secondary Schools (ASUSS) Bauchi chapter has suspended its indefinite industrial action which it embarked upon over suspension of payment of allowances by the Bauchi State government.

This was contained in a communiqué jointly signed by Abdul Hassan Sani on behalf of the state’s Head of Service and Chief of Staff to the governor and Comrade Abdullahi Tanko Ningi, chairman of ASSUS, on behalf of the union, at the end of a meeting.

The communiqué stated that all issues raised under the ASSUS demands numbers 1-5 will be fully examined by the office of the state’s head of service with good representation from the teachers union, while the office of the chief of staff will pursue ASSUS demands numbers 6-9 to logical conclusion.

The meeting resolved that no teacher will suffer any negative consequences for participating in the strike.

The teachers embarked on strike about seven weeks ago after the state government announced suspension of payment of allowances approved under executive fiat due to dwindling resources.
