Bauchi police recover 22 AK47 rifles, uniforms, other items Hoodlums kill 2 guards

IT seems the police in Bauchi State are making a headway in unraveling the circumstances surrounding last Monday’s attack on the Soro Divisional Police Station in Ganjuwa Local Government Area of the state by unknown gunmen in which a policeman and his son were killed with another left injured as the state command, at the weekend, announced that it discovered 22 AK47 rifles with magazines and police uniforms last Friday.

The Soro attack came barely a week after some gunmen attacked Giade Divisional Police Station, destroyed part of the station and  freed detainees in police custody.

According to a statement made available to journalists in Bauchi, by the command’s Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Haruna Mohammed, the discovery was made by the police in a forest between Darazo and Soro, following intelligence reports, adding that police equipment like walkie-talkie, among others, were also discovered in the forest.

Mohammed, a Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP), stated that the riffles and other equipment discovered were believed to have been used by the attackers who attacked the Soro police station.

In a related development, the PPRO informed that some hoodlums between 2:00 and 3:00a.m. on Sunday, attacked and killed two Danga Security guards on duty at Yankari Petrol Station at the Games Village area of Bauchi metropolis.

The hoodlums, according to DSP Mohammed, inflicted deep machete cuts on the guards, one Adamu Ustaz of Zango village in Bauchi and Suleiman (surname unknown yet) of Bishi village, while they did not steal anything from the petrol station.

The hoodlums, according to the Police Public Relations Officer, also attacked the nearby AKY Makana filling station located at the Games Village junction where they made away with two lap tops and injured two guards on duty.

The police took them to ATBU where one Saleh Mallam was treated and discharged while the other, Abubakar Garba, was admitted and said to be responding to treatment.

In another development, the police killed an armed robbery suspect on Saturday on the Soro-Maiduguri Road and arrested other the robbers, Nigerian Tribune gathered, had blocked the road before the arrival of the police and engaged them in a gun duel. They, however, beat a retreat following the police’s superior firepower.
