Bauchi — The Nigerian Union of Journalists (NUJ) Bauchi State chapter has decided to boycott all activities involving students in the state, particularly that of the National Union of Bauchi State Students (NUBASS) over the alleged assault on two reporters and one security personnel attached to the secretariat of the union.
State secretary of the union Sanusi Mohammed Hamid stated this in a statement in Bauchi.
“On Friday while police were beefing up security in the state, we equally asked our security men at the gate to watch the movement of people coming in and out of the secretariat. Members NUBASS came here and our local security asked them to stay outside, and they descended on him. When two reporters went to ask what was happening, they descended on them too and one of newsmen was injured,” he said.
He said the union has reported the matter to the police for necessary action.
The state Police Public Relations Officer DSP Haruna Mohammed confirmed the incident, saying: “When we received a distress call, we responded immediately. But before we arrived the scene, the suspect had left. The police commissioner has ordered investigation into the matter.
