Bauchi Needs N12 Billion to Address Water Shortage

Bauchi โ€” Bauchi State Government has said that it needs N12bn to rehabilitate Gubi Dam Water Treatment Plant in its effort to end the problem of shortage of water in the state.

The Commissioner of Water Resources, Alhaji Sani Muhammed Burra, stated this at a budget defence before the state House of Assembly Committee on Budget and Appropriation.

He said government has taken adequate measures to improve water supply in all parts of the state and sought the support of the federal government to tackle the challenges of water shortage in all parts of the state.

Secretary to the Bauchi State Government, Barrister Ahmed Ibrahim Dandija, who was represented by the Permanent Secretary of the SSG’s office, Alhaji Sha’aibu Dankama, at the budget defence explained that his office maintained a balanced sheet in last year.

The chairman of the committee, Abdulkadir Umar Dewu, commended the SSG’s office for maintaining its expenditures within approved limits. ” It is only SSG’s office that maintained a balanced budget among all the MDA’s that appeared before the committee since the commencement of the defence exercise,” he said.

Dewu also commended the office of the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) for maintaining fiscal discipline in the execution of its projects.

Some members of the committee who contributed during the budget defence while commending the SSG’s office and the MDGs for a job well done, however, urged them to always consult them as major stakeholders in their various constituencies in the execution of certain projects.

The permanent secretary of the MDGs, Alhaji Sambo Umar Jumberi, said all their projects were executed through policy guidance and urged local governments to give them the necessary cooperation in the discharge of their duties.
