Bauchi MDG office spends N1.2billion on hospitals, others

IN an effort to provide good health care services to the people, the Bauchi State Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) has expended over N1.28 billion on the provision of health care facilities in 20 local government councils of the state.

Speaking to newsmen on the activities of his office recently, the Permanent Secretary and state focal person MDGs Bauchi State, Alhaji Sambo Umar Jimberi said that 20 brand new Primary Health Centres (PHCs) were constructed with 20 units of staff quarters attached to each of them.

Jimberi said that 20 hand-pump boreholes, one in each of the facilities, multi-million naira hospital equipment, furniture’s and drugs, among others were also provided for them.

Other items in the package include supply of library equipment for the school of Nursing, School of Midwifery Bauchi, College of Health and Technology Ningi and the construction of School Clinics at the College of Health Technology, Ningi.

He explained that the intervention in the health institutions was a deliberate attempt to enhance teaching and learning in those institutions with a view to boosting staff strength of the health sector in the state.

The Permanent Secretary further stated that additional seven dispensaries were identified in the state, renovated and upgraded into 10-bed capacity PHC maternities.

According to him, all the construction and renovation of the seven hospitals, which was awarded three months ago, now stand around 80-90 per cent completion, while all the supplies concerning hospitals and library equipment, and furniture have been delivered awaiting completion of the projects.

Jimberi further explained that the money was made available by the Bauchi State government and the Office of the Senior Special Assistant to the President on MDGs (OSSAP) on 50-50 funding basis under the 2011 Conditional Grant Scheme (CGS) programme.

He commended the commitment and efforts of Governor Isa Yuguda towards addressing the problems of Maternal and Infant mortality in the state to meet the MDG Goals by the year 2015.

He also urged the benefiting communities to make good use of the facilities provided for them.
