Bauchi Lawmakers to Ban Smoking in Public Places

Bauchi โ€” The Bauchi State House of Assembly has started deliberations on a motion to ban smoking in public places in the state.

Chairman, House Committee on Informa-tion Dayyabu Chiroma, representing Darazo constituency, at the sitting Tuesday presented a motion asking the House to ban smoking in public places.

Chiroma said he has observed that smoking cigarette in public places is affecting official activities of many people, especially those working in government offices and hospitals.

He said, “We need to protect people of the state, especially the younger ones from imbibing the bad habit of smoking in public, as it is dangerous to their health and that of other people. Even producers of cigarette have warned that smoking is dangerous to health”.

After debate on the motion, Speaker of the House Alhaji Yahaya Mohammed Miya directed the House Committee on Health to work on it and submit its report within two weeks.

Similarly, the House mandated its Commit-tee on Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs to look into the motion moved by the member representing Udubo constituency Abdullahi Muktar on the need to checkmate the issuance of indigene certificates.
