THE Bauchi State government has released a sum of N800 million to tackle flood, erosion and desertification facing some local government areas in the state.

This was revealed by the Permanent Secretary, Bauchi State Environmenta Protection Agency (BASEPA), Alhaji Waziri Jalam, in a press statement issued in Bauchi, saying that it was imperative for the state government to release the money considering the effects caused by such ecological catastrophes in the affected areas.

According to the release, the affected local government areas were Alkaleri, Warji and Gamawa.

Alhaji Jalam further noted that the flood problem could be tackled through the construction of “Rip-Rap” storm water channel with stone pinching work and desilting of drainages and culverts to facilitate easy flow of water..

While stating that the Bauchi State government alone could not effectively tackle the challenges posed by the ecological problems, Alhaji Jalam called on the Federal Government to immediately intervene by assisting the state through the Ecological Intervention Funds.
