The Bauchi State Government has begun the distribution of the Federal Government ‘s N400 million relief fund to more than 19, 000 persons affected by the floods of last year.
The Sub-chairman of the State Relief Committee (SRC), Alhaji Ibrahim Jahun, who gave the information in Bauchi, on Monday, said the beneficiaries were spread across the state.
Jahun said the floods caused an estimated damage of N3 billion, but the Federal Government provided N400 million for the support of the victims.
He said that cheques would be used for payments and that all ward heads must be present on the occasion to verify each beneficiary.
“Some of the technicality was to use the cheque method and each ward head will also be at the venue to ensure that correct targets are reached by means of verification.
“About N3 billion was the damage and N400 million was given by the Federal Government as relief fund to the victims.
“A certain percentage was used to ensure that all the affected persons would get certain amount from the relief fund,’’ he said.
Also, the Chairman, Bauchi Local Government, Alhaji Lawal Baba’aji, lauded the support of the state government in providing building materials as relief for victims of floods.
“The state government had earlier provided more than 200 bags of cement, 70 bundles of zinc and nails to the council to support the victims,’’ he said.
Two of the beneficiaries, Malam Sanusi Mohammed and Malam Ayuba Isa, expressed gratitude to the state and federal governments for assisting victims of the flood.
