Bauchi gets N6b internal revenue

| June 28, 2012 More

THE Bauchi State Board of Internal Revenue has generated about N6 billion from May 2011 to date just as it has implemented an electronic tax payers’ registration system in the state.

The Chairman of the board, Mu’azu Musa, stated on Tuesday at a press briefing that 150,000 new taxpayers from the informal sector were registered.

He said the exercise would provide an opportunity to register and issue taxpayers’ identification numbers and also enable the board to widen its taxpayers’ database.

“We are making it mandatory that every tax-payer must have an identification number. We have instructed corporate organisations like the banks that henceforth any individual or organisation that wishes to transact business with them must have taxpayers’ registration cards.

“We are doing this to have information of everybody that pays tax. We want to know who they are and what they do for a living and already, we have reached advanced stage on the issue of the electronic tax-payers’ registration.”

Musa further disclosed that very soon, the board would visit all the ministries in the state so that every civil servant would be registered under the e-system.
