Bauchi farmers access fertilizer via e-wallet

WorldStage Newsonline– Over  252,000  registered farmers in the 20 local government areas  of Bauchi state have each  accessed two bags fertilizer for the current cropping season, Alhaji Mohammed Yusuf, State Director, Federal Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development disclosed in Goukaru, Alkaleri local government of the state.

Yusuf who expressed satisfaction with the on-going distribution exercise also announced that 53 metric tons of Urea and NPK fertilizer have been allocated to Bauchi State, and his office will ensure that each bag of the fertilizers gets to the deserved farmer.

The Director who was accompanied on the exercise by Alhaji Abdullahi Ibrahim Kirfi Director in the state Ministry of Agriculture noted that ’’some farmers who have genuine Identity Card with a correct telephone number, received a text message to come for their fertilizer but their names are not in the Register will also get the commodity.’’

He assured that ‘’such farmers should not to panic or consider themselves unlucky, as we have kick started efforts to ensure that every farmer that, and has gets the commodity’’, but due to budgetary constraints, there was time limit on the distribution exercise but additional time is now necessary.

Yusuf  commended the state government for its cooperation in ensuring the success of the distribution, sayting that ‘’ security personnel from the Nigerian Army, the Police, Civil Defense and others have been of tremendous assistance in the exercise and charged them to maintain their vigilance for the security of lives and property.”

Some E-wallet fertilizer beneficiaries at Kirfi local Government headquarters’ Cheledi Ward, among them over 40 female farmers informed The Nation ‘‘this is the first time that we, women are accessing fertilizer in this local government.’’

Mallam Azimi Adamu, a mother of seven children, aged 46 years said ‘each farming season, we used to suffer before getting fertilizer, most times we spent more than N5500 on each bag as against the present rate of N5500 for the two bags of NPK and Urea.
