Bauchi Declares Two-Day Holiday to Tackle Flood

Bauchi โ€” Bauchi State Governor Isa Yuguda declared yesterday (Tuesday) and today (Wednesday) as work free days for workers in the state to enable them clear their drainages to prevent flood.

Daily Trust correspondent reports since the commencement of the rainy season, many families have been sacked from their homes just as property worth millions of naira have been destroyed.

Chief Press Secretary to the governor, Mr Ishola Michael Adeyemi, said, “Two days have been declared work free to enable people clear the drainages to allow free flow of water and avert flooding. We will also use the period to chlorinate our wells to ensure safety of our people”.

Our correspondent reports that since last Thursday, Bauchi State Governor Isa Yuguda has been going round the state, urging residents to clear their drainages to prevent flood.

Recently, an official of the state emergency agency, Alhaji Mohammed Inuwa Bello, said four people, including a nine-year old girl drowned in flood water in Shekal ward in Bauchi metropolis.
