Properties worth over N3 billion were lost in communities across the 20 local government areas of Bauchi State as a result of the flood disaster which ravaged the state last year.

The state committee for the distribution of the relief funds to the victims disclosed this during its recent tour to the affected communities in Dambam, Misau and Darazo local government areas of the state.

The chairman of the committee, Ambassador Adamu Aliyu, represented by his deputy Alhaji Ibrahim Sa’idu Jahun, said the state has received the sum of N400millionĀ  intervention fund from the Federal Government, and explained that the visit was aimed at identifying the victims and analysing their losses; promising that the committee would share the money directly to the beneficiaries.

Aliyu added that although the amount that would be distributed was meagre compared to the losses caused by the flood, the compensation would bring succour to the victims. He also used the medium to ask people of the affected areas to shun all bad environmental practices such as indiscriminate dumping of refuse, planting and building on waterways to avoid recurrence of flooding that will lead of loss of lives and precious property.
