Bauchi Committed to Realisation of North-east Devt. Plan, Says Yuguda

Bauchi State Government has reiterated its commitment towards the realisation of the objectives of North-east Economic Summit by giving every necessary support to its proposed development plan for the sub-region.

Governor Isa Yuguda gave the assurance at an interactive session of the North-east Sub-regional development plan with members of the private sector, organised by the Sub-region development Planning Committee at the Sheraton Hotel, Abuja.

Yuguda during the session pledged that Bauchi State government will continue to give the necessary support and cooperation towards the preparation of the development plan and its eventual implementation.

The Governor represented by his Deputy, Sagir Aminu Saleh, also commended the Planning Committee for reaching out to all stakeholders in the preparation of the sub-regional development plan, according to a statement from Government House, Bauchi made available to THISDAY Friday.

He described as imperative the involvement of the private sector in the preparation of the development plan, as pre-requisite for tapping their practical experience and knowledge for the purpose of enriching the plan.
Yuguda also observed that members of the private sector invited for the interactive session, not only cut across various sectors of the economy but were people who have over the years, distinguished themselves in their chosen enterprises.

The Governor expressed dismay that the North-east was lagging behind other geo-political zones of the country in almost all indices of human development which he described, as discouraging in view of the fact that the sub-region was endowed with abundant human and material resources.
He attributed the security challenge bedevilling the North-east in the past five years to problem of under development, and urged the stakeholders to evolve strategic plan that will get the sub-region out of the woods.

The North-east Economic Development Plan Committee Chairman, Mohammed Kabir Ahmed had earlier in a welcome address said the committee was saddled with the responsibility of working out framework and proffering solutions to the backwardness of the sub-region in virtually all segment of human development.

Alhaji Mohammed Ahmed commended the six Governors of the North-east for their foresight in charting a development plan for the sub-region despite the insurgency problem militating against it.
Papers were presented at the occasion by some business entrepreneurs, technocrats and politicians among whom NACCIMA National Vice President, Sanusi Maijama’a who dwelled on a paper tagged, “Trade Policies and Measures for an Enabling Environment to promote trade and commerce at regional, national and international level.
Alhaji sanusi Maijama’a described trade as the engine of economic growth and development and a key factor in terms of generating wealth, poverty reduction, and vital tool for Nigeria’s integration into the World economy.

The NACCIMA Vice President observed that trade policy sought to create an enabling environment to increase capital inflow and to transfer and adopt appropriate technologies.
Others who presented papers at the interactive session included a former minister of National Planning, Dr. Shamsudden Usman and the Director-General of Small and Medium Entrepreneurs Development Agency (SMEDAN), Bature Umar Masari.
