THE Bauchi State House of Assembly, on Thursday, asked the state High Court to stay the execution of the judgment obtained by the suspended female member of the assembly, Honourable Rifkatu Samson Danna, which orders for her return to the assembly.

The state Chief Judge, Justice Ibrahim Mohammed Zango, had, last month, reinstated Danna, who was suspended by the assembly on June 7, 2012, declaring her suspension as illegal.

She was suspended following her refusal to submit a written apology to the assembly over her comment on its floor, following the decison taken by members to relocate the headquarters of Tafawa Balewa Local Government Area of the state from Tafawa Balewa to Bununu.

Counsel for the assembly, Haruna Mahmud Yakubu, however filed a notice of appeal and a motion to stay the execution of the judgment, which ordered her return to the assembly and to pay all her entitlements.

When the case was mentioned on Thursday, Yakubu asked the court to stay the execution of the judgment, pending the determination of the appeal filed at the Federal High Court, Jos division.

Meanwhile, the presiding judge, Justice Aliyu Baba Usman, adjourned the case till July 25.
