Bauchi Assembly Promises Speedy Passage of Water Reforms Bill

He sated this yesterday at a legislative retreat in Abuja on the review of Bauchi Urban Water Law organized by a USAID programme: Sustainable Water and Sanitation in Africa (SUWASA), WaterAid Nigeria and Women Empowerment Initiative in Nigeria (WEIN).

Miya said with the focus of the state government on water sector reforms and investment, the legislative arm was optimistic that the state would very soon improve water supply and sanitation services.

In his remarks, WaterAid country representative, Dr. Micheal Ojo, said WaterAid’s mission was to transform lives by working with the people and governments at all levels to improve access to safe water, sanitation and hygiene.

Bauchi State Commissioner for Water Resources, Sani Mohammad Burra, said even though the state was blessed with abundant water resources, there was the need to address water resources policy for optimum utilisation.

The team leader of USAID-SUWASA project office in Bauchi, Engineer Hossana John Dajan, said SUWASA the aim of the retreat was to assist in the development the Bauchi urban water sector and appealed to the legislators give it a priority.

The retreat attracted participants from MDAs, legislators, donor partners and the civil society organizations.
