FROM PAUL ORUDE, BAUCHI

An All Progressives Congress (APC) chieftain in Bauchi State, Alhaji Ali Wakili, has commended members of the party in the state for maintaining high level of discipline throughout the party’s registration and congresses in the state.

Speaking to newsmen in Bununu in Tafawa Balewa Local Government Area, during the Local Government congress, Wakili attributed the peaceful conduct of the registration and congress elections to the discipline and calmness of the party’s supporters.

He said: “If you look at it since we started this APC affair from the registration to the ward congress, we have seen how receptive, how interested and how peaceful and calm members of the party have been.”

Wakili, a former senatorial candidate for Bauchi South on the platform of the defunct Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN), was optimistic that the party has exhibited the needed attributes to change the system. According to him: “they have shown that we are very discipline as a party and they are showing their determination that it is only with disciplined that they can wrest power from the PDP.”

Speaking on preparation for the state congress, Wakili explained: “We are electing a greater majority of the delegates today (Saturday) because all the local government officials plus the five delegates to be elected, especially from Tafawa Balewa and other delegates each from each ward making 212 wards, will be voters on Saturday and arrangement have been put in place by the interim management and the state congress merger committees to ensure that each and every prospective voter participates peacefully without rancour.

“We are praying to God that of the eight or nine persons that are vying for the position of chairmanship of the party that the best of them will emerge democratically.”

The APC chieftain said the multitude that turned up for the party’s registration and congresses so far, indicated that they were interested in the changes that would take place in their lives and the Nigerian state.

“They are not here because somebody has sent buses to them. Each and everyone is here and numerous others that could not be here, are discontented with what is happening in Nigeria” he said.

The level of insecurity, the high poverty rate and unemployment and so many other things bedevilling our society are enough for them to come out and participate and ensure that the PDP is voted out.”

He therefore called on APC supporters nationwide to be prayerful, vigilant and peaceful during the state congress on Saturday, to ensure that the peace  is sustained to choose the best
