ACADEMICALS FOOTBALL CHAMPIONSHIP:Oyo State emerges …

Oyo State Academicals have emerged the winner of the maiden edition of Nigeria Academicals Football Competition by defeating Bauchi State 1-0 in the final match played at the Lekan Salami Stadium, Adamasingba, Ibadan yesterday.

The only goal of the match came in the 70th minute via penalty and converted by Soliu Abdullahi after a Bauchi defender handled the ball in the box.

To this end, Oyo Academicals will now represent Nigeria at the World Academicals Football Championship in the United State of America (USA) next month. The ticket to this effect was presented to the team by Nigeria Academicals Sports Committee (NASCOM) president, Chief Segun Odegbami (MON) while various awards were given to outstanding players.

Kaduna State beat Edo State in the thirds placed final earlier decided via penalty shootout.

In his reaction, the State Commissioner for Youth and Sports, Hon Dapo Lam Adesina gives glory to Almighty God for successful hosting of the tournament with a promise that the State government will not relent at bringing development to all sphere of life.

Odegbami while commenting on the championship thanked Oyo State government for hosting the event after initial host, Kwara State failed at the last minute. The football aficionado, Dudu Orumen, who also watched the final, praised the standard of the competition.

 Chief kashimawo Laloko, Jossy Lad, Dr. Felix Owolabi, Mutiu Adepoju and other top football personalities were in attendance to grace the final yesterday.
